Week 4 was definitely not what we had hoped for. Finally the poor weather caught up with us and we had to cancel our Friday night twilight event. Whilst we ended up having a weekend off with our normal program, it didn't mean our BHLAC athletes were void of athletics. We had a significant number of BHLAC athletes compete at the Athletics Victoria All Schools Championships. This is a significant event on the AV calendar. Congratulations to everyone that competed on the weekend and good luck to everyone competing this weekend at week 2 of the All Schools Championships at Lakeside. This week coming is going to be busy. With only a few weeks to go until the Box Hill Relay Day we are looking to finalise teams for not only this event but also for the EMR Relay Championships in December. Please chat to your Age Group Manager's if you would like to make a team. We would also like to thank and introduce Karen Choong who has gladly accepted the role of BHLAC Team Manager. We are also looking for another parent that would be interested in supporting Karen so if you would like to assist with this role, please let our Committee know. We will be introducing some training as part of the mid week training from next week onwards so please look out for more info over the coming week. Program B this Sunday at the track. The weather gods shone down on Hagenauer Reserve last Sunday. Whilst the entire state wasl almost washed out on Saturday, we were very fortunate to have a full afternoon of sunshine and athletics. There have been lots of comments this season about the way we go about our program. It's fun, relaxed and full of atmosphere. However it is really the positive attitude and commitment from everyone involved that has made the program so enjoyable. Thank you to all the parents for committing to a big duty roster. Without you we just would not get it done. Seeing all the smiling faces has well been worth it! This week coming we see our program head to our first Friday night twilight event. The first in a few years. Whilst we expect the turnout to be reduced due to the long weekend, we still will provide an action packed program for everyone attending. Please note the start time is 5pm sharp for the On Track U6/U7 athletes and the remaining athletes will commence at 5:30pm. We will have a BBQ available for anyone wishing to purchase a quick dinner and because it is also Halloween on Monday we would encourage anyone to come in their best Halloween outfit if you like. With over 300 athletes competing and many families and friends cheering on, it made for a perfect atmosphere for community sport. It has been so pleasing to see so many people this season. With Covid affecting most sports and membership numbers, it has been brilliant to see so many people return to support our sport. BHLAC has already surpassed 335 members and has also welcomed 200 Come & Try Athletes this season. Some astonishing results given we are only 2 weeks into the season. With a 70% increase in membership over last season the BHLAC Committee has had to make a number of changes to cater for the increase in each weekend's program. Without the invaluable feedback from parents, age group managers and athletes we would not have had such a successful day as we did yesterday. Thank you to everyone for their support and commitment to the program. We had over 65 parent duties filled prior to the event start time. Our setup crew had everything ready to go by 1:20pm and the track was clearly humming. With the music going and the sun shining there were endless smiles for all to see! |

This Sunday - Program C
The increase in athletes this season has required the BHLAC to make changes to the 3 weekly programs. Whilst the events are the same, there will be some minor adjustments made over the coming weeks to ensure that we can provide our members with the most accurate schedule possible. The event program will be released before Sunday's program via TeamApp & Facebook.
Please check your start times as some age group start times have been brought forward. The U6/U7 On Track Program will commence at 1:30pm sharp every week and will now start from their first event location.
Parent Duty @ BHLAC
BHLAC is extremely lucky and thankful for having such a supportive cohort of parents volunteers. The commitment we have seen over the first few weeks is the envy of all other clubs. We have filled over 60 duties per week. An amazing result. The extra field event assistants have made an enormous difference to the flow of the age groups through the program. The setup assistance, timing team, starters, pack up, canteen........ the list goes on.
THANK YOU to each and every one of you that has completed a parent duty this season.
Remember all families must complete a parent duty at, at least 50% of the season meets for your children to be eligible for an end of season award.
Support and training is offered if you would like to learn starting or operate the timing computers. A special duty is offered in the SignUp roster for timing support. Please select 'Track Timing Assistant' if you would like to learn more about being an official timer.
Thank you for your continued support. It makes a massive difference to the day!

See you at the track!
It was another big day for at BHLAC for week 1 on Sunday. The first few weeks are always pretty hectic. With many new families learning the way and the need to manage extremely large groups, the day kept everyone on their toes.
The atmosphere was brilliant and the attitude and commitment from everyone at the track was amazing to see. The Committee would like to thank all the parents for their assistance today.
BHLAC Membership numbers have been extraordinary thus far. We have already registered over 300 members and have welcomed another 181 to the track in the last 2 weeks to 'Come & Try'. That is more than double what we have been running through the program in previous years and we have to go back to 2017 to see similar numbers.
We had over 60 parent duties filled before the day which made many events a lot easier to manage. Our Age Group Managers did an outstanding job and in some cases there were over 25 athletes in some groups. We cannot emphasise enough the importance of parent support. Especially if you are following you child's age group around. Whilst assisting the Age Group Manager is not recognised as an official duty it is clear that as a cohort we need to chip in and help out when required. Moving athlete groups from event to event, helping measure a discus throw if short or even raking a pit goes a long way to assisting with the program and your help over the season is greatly appreciated.
Next week is a big week with Program B and hurdles on the back straight. Please look out for TeamApp posts this week with updates. The Committee will be holding a Committee Meeting this Tuesday to discuss items from the day and ways in which we can fine tune the program to make it better.
We would encourage any member to provide feedback about the first round. Any ideas to improve the program are always welcomed and appreciated. Details for our President Dean Williams can be found at the end of the blog.

Training at BHLAC - This Wednesday
BHLAC runs an open training event each Wednesday afternoon at the track between 4:30pm to 5:30pm and is run by Stephen Cain (ex Australian decathlete - IAAF Level 4 Coach) and his team. Last week we had over 60 attend so as a courtesy to Steve and so as he can arrange the appropriate number of coaches for the program we ask all parents to register their child if they are attending.

BHLAC Event Program
It goes without saying that we greatly appreciate the time and effort our Age Group Managers put into our program. The start of the season always needs a few weeks to bed in and establish a smooth program. With the increase in athlete numbers this season there is a real need for parents that are following their child's group to assist the AGM with keeping the group in control. Please keep this in mind when following your group and let your AGM know that you're there to help. Many hands make light work and also helps to maintain structure of the day.
This weeks program is B. Front and back straights in action. On Track kids can arrive at 1:30pm to commence their early skills program.

Parent Duty @ BHLAC
A MASSIVE thank you to all the parents that signed up to a parent duty last weekend. As you can see, the event could just not get off the ground without the support of parents.
Last week we introduced some new roles. Pit assistants. These roles allow you to do a duty with friends or other parents in your age group. It's a great way to spend an afternoon together and 'chew the fat' whilst you complete a duty. The roles are easy but necessary for each event.
Long / Triple Jump - Measurer, Raker & Recorder
Discus / Shot Put - Measurer, Marker (mark where the discus/shot lands) and a recorder.
The feedback from AGM's was overwhelmingly positive and did go a long way to speeding up the event for groups. If this duty sounds like one for you, please jump on to the parent duty link below and sign up.

Thank you to all the parents that have had such kind words to say about their experience at BHLAC so far. With such a big program and lots more athletes each week, we are still working through and finalising ways in which we can make the experience better for all our families.
What is important though is that we hear from you. The good, the not so good and most of all what you think we could do to improve our program.
We would love to hear from you so please feel free to share your thoughts with our club President Dean Williams on 0417346382 or at [email protected]
See you at the track!

Welcome to this weeks edition of the the BHLAC weekly blog. What a fantastic day it was at the BHLAC Come & Try Day on Sunday. With over 200 athletes and families attending it was brilliant to see so many new faces.
Not only trying Little Athletics but choosing our Centre as their chosen club. We greatly appreciate it and welcome you all to BHLAC!
Thank you also to the returning members that used the day as a hit out before the Season Program officially commences this Sunday.
We have our first mid week training this Wednesday at 4:30pm with Steve Cain and his team of coaches. More to follow about this later in the blog.
Our membership numbers have started off extremely well. We have already exceeded our last season membership number and with 200 Come & Try Athletes registered we anticipate a large increase over the coming weeks. This promises to be the biggest season at BHLAC in many years.
A reminder that the Early Bird Membership Fee of $160 expires this Wednesday 5th October at 11:59pm. The membership fee will increase to $185 after this date. This fee also includes the 2023 Winter Cross Country Season membership as part of the purchase.
This BHLAC weekly blog is a great way for all parents and athletes to read up on the news of the week. Everything you need to know will be featured in this blog so look out for it each Monday throughout the season.

Training at BHLAC - This Wednesday
BHLAC runs an open training event each Wednesday afternoon at the track between 4:30pm to 5:30pm and is run by Stephen Cain (ex Australian decathlete - IAAF Level 4 Coach) and his team. So as Steve can arrange the appropriate number of coaches for the program we ask all parents to register their child if they are attending.

BHLAC Event Program
This week sees the start of the Official Season Program. BHLAC conducts a 3 week rotational program designed to give the athletes the chance to compete in as many events as possible. Each week they will complete 4-5 events which will be timed and measured. This allows everyone the chance to strive for personal bests and to see some real progress over the season. A walks program will be offered subject to interest. This will be added to the Program 'A' week.
Each age group is managed by an Age Group Manager. This is a parent volunteer that has offered to manage the team for the season. The AGM not only assists the athletes with feedback but also assists with moving around the venue to each event.
We also offer a unique starting program for our Under 6 & 7 athletes. We call this 'On Track'. All 'On Track' kids are invited to start 30 minutes early at 1:30pm for a specialised program designed to help teach the basic fundamentals of running, jumping and throwing. This starting program runs right up until the Xmas break.

Parent Duty @ BHLAC
A key component to a successful athletics program is parent support. Without it we could not run the program. Each week we need the assistance of parents for a whole range of roles. Timing officials, marshals, starters, canteen, just to name a few. For your child to be eligible for an end of season award, parents are required to complete duty at a minimum of 50% of the meets for the season. At BHLAC we use the SignUp program. Each week the program duties will be released for the upcoming meet and parents have the availability of selecting a duty available. The earlier you select your duty, the greater the chance of getting the role you desire. The SignUp link will be sent via TeamApp and will also be available here on the weekly blog.

BHLAC Shoe Swap
Help support this great initiative by donating your old shoes. If you have any running shoes or spikes that are just lying around at home and not in use, we would appreciate you donating them so a new member can use them. All shoes purchased will be $10 and any surplus shoes will be donated to 'Sport for All' - a leading social inclusion charity. The shoes will be available sometime in October. Details to follow over the coming weeks.
Box Hill Relay Day - November 20, 2022
The annual Box Hill Relay Day will be held on Sunday 20th November, 2022. This is our major fund raising event of the year and is attended by over 1000 people. It is widely regarded as the best carnival event of the season.
Save the date as this is one you will not want to miss!!
Over the coming weeks we will be asking the Age Group Managers to ask their group who wants to be in a relay team. We strongly encourage all our athletes to participate in this day. Not only is it a great day but enables our young people the chance to get to know their team mates better.
