Congratulations to all the BHLAC athletes that competed at the Eastern Metro Region Carnival on the weekend. It was a fantastic event. BHLAC performed extremely well and it was great to see our athletes on the podium on a number of occasions. A special thank you to all the parents that supported the event. Our two Team Managers, Phiranna Chuon and Scott Dolman. Thank you and to our Chief Officials and parents that supported the events we were allocated. A BIG thank you to you all. Without parent support these events just don't happen so thank you from all of us at BHLAC! With the season end fast approaching we focus on the last 2 program weeks at Hagenauer Reserve before we finish the season with the State Track & Field Championships at Lakeside on the 11th & 12th March. The next 2 weeks will be the final 2 weeks. This coming Sunday will be Program C and the final week we will finish with Program A. The end of season break up day will be Sunday 2nd April. We will provide more details of this day closer to the time. As a club we can be extremely proud of what we have achieved this season. We have had such wonderful feedback from parents expressing their gratitude to our committee for their tireless work throughout the season. The cycle of a sporting club committee is forever changing. With some changes coming and parents leaving it is time for some new parents to come on board and help continue the great legacy left by parents before them. We are calling for parents of the club that would be interested in joining our committee. Please contact our club president Dean Williams at [email protected] to find out more. This week - Program CThis week is the final Program C week. Long hurdles. For many that have qualified for State Track & Field this is a really important week to hone your skills before the big finale. We would love to hear from you so please feel free to share your thoughts with our club President Dean Williams on 0417346382 or at [email protected] See you at the track! Congratulations to all our BHLAC athletes that competed at the State Relay Championships on Saturday at Lakeside. It was a fantastic way to end the Relay program for the season. It seems like ages since we held the Box Hill Relay Day back in November but what that has allowed our teams to do is spend more time together practising and improving as a team. BHLAC had over 25 teams competing on Saturday and we had a number of teams place and win their finals. Congratulations to everyone that took part in the relay program this season. For the ones that didn't participate in the program this year, we hope the fun and enjoyment displayed this season gives you some encouragement to participate next season. We are back at the track this Sunday for the third last Sunday Program of the season. Please check the season calendar later in the blog for the remaining weeks of competition. Since then we have received a number of emails from families wishing to clarify the number of duties they may have been credited for so far. It is almost impossible to have complete accuracy with this report. For a number of reasons. For example, parents quite often sign up with different names. Sometimes family names are used. Other times maiden names may be. Often parents use their Christian name with no surname. This does make it difficult to collate accurate data as we do not have all the extra family information. It would be greatly appreciated if all families use the same name to sign up to parent duties and use their christian and surnames in the future. We would also ask you to make sure that you check in at the start of the program with the welcomer when completing a duty. If you sign up for a parent duty in the week but do not check in at the program, we assume you have not turned up and subsequently will be marked as a 'no show' for that duty. With 3 program weeks to go there is still plenty of time for parents to complete the minimum of 6 duties for their children to be eligible for an end of season award. We would love to hear from you so please feel free to share your thoughts with our club President Dean Williams on 0417346382 or at [email protected] See you at the track! Another great day of Little Athletics today at Hagenauer Reserve. With plenty of families still away for the summer holidays, it allowed the program to run on time with next to no delays. The sun was out and the zooper doopers were in high demand. Most importantly, everyone had a fantastic afternoon. Congratulations to all the athletes today. There were an enormous amount of PB's. The Age group managers were very busy giving out all the PB ribbons. A special mention to Hannah Plant & James Hall. Both Hannah and James broke a BHLAC Centre Record today. Hannah in the U16 girls Javelin and James in the U10 boys 1,100m. Well done to you both. Our Centre membership numbers are continuing to grow. With a number of families taking up the post New Year special membership joining fee of $99 we currently have 373 members for the 2022/23 season. We have almost doubled our membership numbers from the previous season and current forecasting predicts that we will achieve more than 400 members for the season once we include the Cross Country members still to join. With only 4 program meets to go before the season ends in March, we are getting to the busy part of the season. In the next 5 weeks we will also have the State Relay Championships at Lakeside (Sat Feb 4) and 2 weeks after that the EMR Track & Field Carnival at Doncaster (Sat 18 / Sun 19). Our end of season awards day & presentation is on Sunday 2nd April. More news to come over the coming weeks for this day. Training at BHLAC - This WednesdayWith the State Relay Championships on in a few weeks we are encouraging all athletes and their teams to come to our Wednesday training for a dedicated relay training session. This is a great opportunity to get the team back together and get some serious practice in with our BHLAC coaches on hand to assist. With nearly 80 parent duties required to run each week smoothly we have had almost every week filled before the day. In the next week all parents will receive an email advising them of how many parent duties each family has completed. For all athletes to be eligible for an end of season award, their parents/guardians must complete a duty at 50% of the program meets. With 13 program meets this season all parents must complete 6 duties over 6 program meets. For example, 3 duties in one day by a family equate to only one duty noted for the day. If you are unsure of how many duties you have completed or you know you have only completed 3 or less duties this season, then you still have a chance to complete your required number of duties before the season comes to an end. This coming weeks parent duty roster is now available. Click on this link to select your parent duty Uniform @ BHLACWith Championship season nearing, this is a timely reminder to all BHLAC of the uniform requirements. All athletes MUST wear the BHLAC uniform. Singlet, T-Shirt or Crop Top. All tops must have the Coles badge sewn on the shirt above the Little Aths Victoria logo. The BHLAC uniform is available to purchase each Sunday at our program days. It was great to be back at Hagenauer Reserve on Sunday. The BHLAC would like to wish everyone involved with the Club a very Happy New Year. With the Summer break giving everyone a chance to recharge and have a rest it gives us a great opportunity to set some new year goals and plan what we want to get out of the rest of the season. With 5 official program weeks to go we have reduced the membership fee for anyone wanting to try Little Athletics for the remainder of the season to $99. This fee also includes the upcoming winter cross country season. Spread in between the remaining program weeks are a number of special events. The State Relay Championships on the 4th February, the EMR Track & Field Carnival on the 18/19 February and finally the State Track & Field Championships on 11/12 March. So there is plenty of Athletics to run before the season ends in March. Congratulations to all our teams that have successfully qualified for the State Relay Championships. We have over 40 teams that have qualified for the event. An extraordinary effort from all our athletes. We have a few weeks to go before the big day, so we'd encourage all teams to plan some time together to practice. Program C this weekThis week is Program C. To say we have been busy would be an understatement. With the Box Hill Relay Day, the EMR Relay Carnival and a few program meets in between it has been a BIG month for athletes, parents and the BHLAC Committee. A special thank you to everyone that has been involved with the Relay Program. It took a bit longer to get going this season due to the huge season start. Not to mention we all needed to get around it again given Covid had cancelled the program over the last 2 seasons. We had amazing support from our Age Group Managers, Team Managers, parents and athletes. In particular our BHLAC Team Manager Karen Choong. Thank you Karen for an outstanding effort on Saturday and the week preceding the EMR Carnival. There is an enormous amount of work that goes on behind the scenes and we are lucky that we have a great cohort of parents willing to support the program. Relays are a great team building exercise. In a sport where most events are individual based, Relays are the one occasion where you get to celebrate and perform with friends. BHLAC had some amazing results over the last month. Congratulations to everyone that participated and to the ones that will progress to State Relays in the New Year, we wish you all the best!! |

This Sunday - Program C
The increase in athletes this season has required the BHLAC to make changes to the 3 weekly programs. Whilst the events are the same, there will be some minor adjustments made over the coming weeks to ensure that we can provide our members with the most accurate schedule possible. The event program will be released before Sunday's program via TeamApp & Facebook.
Please check your start times as some age group start times have been brought forward. The U6/U7 On Track Program will commence at 1:30pm sharp every week and will now start from their first event location.
Parent Duty @ BHLAC
BHLAC is extremely lucky and thankful for having such a supportive cohort of parents volunteers. The commitment we have seen over the first few weeks is the envy of all other clubs. We have filled over 60 duties per week. An amazing result. The extra field event assistants have made an enormous difference to the flow of the age groups through the program. The setup assistance, timing team, starters, pack up, canteen........ the list goes on.
THANK YOU to each and every one of you that has completed a parent duty this season.
Remember all families must complete a parent duty at, at least 50% of the season meets for your children to be eligible for an end of season award.

Your feedback matters
Thank you to all the parents that have had such kind words to say about their experience at BHLAC so far. With such a big program and lots more athletes each week, we are still working through and finalising ways in which we can make the experience better for all our families.
What is important though is that we hear from you. The good, the not so good and most of all what you think we could do to improve our program.
We would love to hear from you so please feel free to share your thoughts with our club President Dean Williams on 0417346382 or at [email protected]
See you at the track!

See you at the track!
It was another big day for at BHLAC for week 1 on Sunday. The first few weeks are always pretty hectic. With many new families learning the way and the need to manage extremely large groups, the day kept everyone on their toes.
The atmosphere was brilliant and the attitude and commitment from everyone at the track was amazing to see. The Committee would like to thank all the parents for their assistance today.
BHLAC Membership numbers have been extraordinary thus far. We have already registered over 300 members and have welcomed another 181 to the track in the last 2 weeks to 'Come & Try'. That is more than double what we have been running through the program in previous years and we have to go back to 2017 to see similar numbers.
We had over 60 parent duties filled before the day which made many events a lot easier to manage. Our Age Group Managers did an outstanding job and in some cases there were over 25 athletes in some groups. We cannot emphasise enough the importance of parent support. Especially if you are following you child's age group around. Whilst assisting the Age Group Manager is not recognised as an official duty it is clear that as a cohort we need to chip in and help out when required. Moving athlete groups from event to event, helping measure a discus throw if short or even raking a pit goes a long way to assisting with the program and your help over the season is greatly appreciated.
Next week is a big week with Program B and hurdles on the back straight. Please look out for TeamApp posts this week with updates. The Committee will be holding a Committee Meeting this Tuesday to discuss items from the day and ways in which we can fine tune the program to make it better.
We would encourage any member to provide feedback about the first round. Any ideas to improve the program are always welcomed and appreciated. Details for our President Dean Williams can be found at the end of the blog.

BHLAC runs an open training event each Wednesday afternoon at the track between 4:30pm to 5:30pm and is run by Stephen Cain (ex Australian decathlete - IAAF Level 4 Coach) and his team. Last week we had over 60 attend so as a courtesy to Steve and so as he can arrange the appropriate number of coaches for the program we ask all parents to register their child if they are attending.

BHLAC Event Program
It goes without saying that we greatly appreciate the time and effort our Age Group Managers put into our program. The start of the season always needs a few weeks to bed in and establish a smooth program. With the increase in athlete numbers this season there is a real need for parents that are following their child's group to assist the AGM with keeping the group in control. Please keep this in mind when following your group and let your AGM know that you're there to help. Many hands make light work and also helps to maintain structure of the day.
This weeks program is B. Front and back straights in action. On Track kids can arrive at 1:30pm to commence their early skills program.

Parent Duty @ BHLAC
A MASSIVE thank you to all the parents that signed up to a parent duty last weekend. As you can see, the event could just not get off the ground without the support of parents.
Last week we introduced some new roles. Pit assistants. These roles allow you to do a duty with friends or other parents in your age group. It's a great way to spend an afternoon together and 'chew the fat' whilst you complete a duty. The roles are easy but necessary for each event.
Long / Triple Jump - Measurer, Raker & Recorder
Discus / Shot Put - Measurer, Marker (mark where the discus/shot lands) and a recorder.
The feedback from AGM's was overwhelmingly positive and did go a long way to speeding up the event for groups. If this duty sounds like one for you, please jump on to the parent duty link below and sign up.

Box Hill Relay Day - November 20, 2022
The annual Box Hill Relay Day will be held on Sunday 20th November, 2022. This is our major fund raising event of the year and is attended by over 1000 people. It is widely regarded as the best carnival event of the season.
Save the date as this is one you will not want to miss!!
Over the coming weeks we will be asking the Age Group Managers to ask their group who wants to be in a relay team. We strongly encourage all our athletes to participate in this day. Not only is it a great day but enables our young people the chance to get to know their team mates better.
Season Calendar 2022/2023
The BHLAC Season runs from the end of September through to mid December when we take a break for the holidays. We recommence in mid January and continue until the middle of March. This is a major fundraising day for the Centre and is attended by over 1000 people from all over Melbourne. We would also like to thank Belle Property Balwyn for donating 3 Real Estate Boards to help promote the start of the new season. Not only have they donated the boards but they have devoted their entire window to our sign.
This week we have a new board which has arrived at a new location. Red Apple Early Learning Centre at 243 Doncaster Rd, Balwyn North has kindly allowed us to position our Street Board on their premises. With the help of our future Little Athlete Brigette who's also a Red Apple attendee we have no doubt BHLAC is getting a great plug!
