It is nice to welcome everyone back for the new Summer Little Athletics Season for 2022/23 at Box Hill Little Athletics. This season promises to be the biggest for some years. We have had an outstanding start to the season for membership registrations and an unbelievable response for 'Come & Try' registrations also. It is for this reason we needed to run a clinic style program this Sunday October 2, to give everyone the chance to try as many events a possible. We encourage everyone to come down to the track this Sunday and blow off those winter cobwebs before official timing and Program A kicks off the following week. We will also have a sausage sizzle running so we hope to see you all at the track. This BHLAC weekly blog is a great way for all parents and athletes to read up on the news of the week. Everything you need to know will be featured in this blog so look out for it each Monday throughout the season. This Sunday - Come & Try - 2pm startThe last 'Come & Try Day' was unfortunately washed out therefore to give everyone the chance to try as many events we have moved the day to this Sunday 2nd October. Whilst the start time is 2pm, we would encourage everyone to arrive a little earlier to register and be ready to start on time. We will have 8 events running over the afternoon. 100m, 200, 800, hurdles, shot put, discus, long jump and high jump. To accommodate the number of athletes attending, there will be no timing or measuring this week. We encourage all members to attend and use the day as a warm up for the official program start day the following Sunday. A reminder to all 'Come & Try' Athletes that everyone still has 2 weeks in which you can try before becoming an official member (regardless of whether you attended the last 'Come & Try Day'. However the early bird fee of $160 per athlete must end on Wednesday 5th October at 11:59pm. After this time the fee will increase to $185 per athlete. Should you wish to register now or you still need to register for the 'Come & Try Day' click on this link below. Please click on this link to go to the BHLAC membership portal Training at BHLACBHLAC runs an open training event each Wednesday afternoon at the track between 4:30pm to 5:30pm and is run by Stephen Cain (ex Australian decathlete - IAAF Level 4 Coach) and his team. So as Steve can arrange the appropriate number of coaches for the program we ask all parents to register their child if they are attending. The training link will feature each week in the blog and also will be communicated via our normal channels. BHLAC Event ProgramBHLAC runs a 3 week rotational program designed to give the athletes the chance to compete in as many events as possible. Each week they will complete 4-5 events which will be timed and measured. This allows everyone the chance to strive for personal bests and to see some real progress over the season. A walks program will be offered subject to interest. This will be added to the Program 'A' week. Each age group is managed by an Age Group Manager. This is a parent volunteer that has offered to manage the team for the season. The AGM not only assists the athletes with feedback but also assists with moving around the venue to each event. We also offer a unique starting program for our Under 6 & 7 athletes. We call this 'On Track'. All 'On Track' kids are invited to start 30 minutes early at 1:30pm for a specialised program designed to help teach the basic fundamentals of running, jumping and throwing. This starting program runs right up until the Xmas break. Details to follow over the coming weeks. Communication at BHLACCommunication at BHLAC is a key pillar to our success as a centre. TeamApp by Stack Sports is the most effective communication tool we use. By using TeamApp we can instantaneously send messages to all members via their smart phone. Additional to this an email also gets pushed simultaneously. Whether it is a weather update or the weekly blog, it is the fastest way to get information to you. Simply download TeamApp on the App Store or Google Play. Search for 'Box Hill Little Aths' and select the general member page. Facebook, Instagram and our BHLAC Website will also give you all the information you need through the season. https://www.facebook.com/boxhill.lac/ https://www.instagram.com/boxhilllac/ Parent Duty @ BHLACA key component to a successful athletics program is parent support. Without it we could not run the program. Each week we need the assistance of parents for a whole range of roles. Timing officials, marshals, starters, canteen, just to name a few. For your child to be eligible for an end of season award, parents are required to complete duty at a minimum of 50% of the meets for the season. At BHLAC we use the SignUp program. Each week the program duties will be released for the upcoming meet and parents have the availability of selecting a duty available. The earlier you select your duty, the greater the chance of getting the role you desire. The SignUp link will be sent via TeamApp and will also be available on the weekly blog.
