It was a really great day at Hagenauer Reserve today. Week 11 featured Program B and was focused on sprints & hurdles on the back straight. Not only that but Javelin, High Jump along with Discus also featured prominently.

We have a lot to be proud of this season at BHLAC. Membership numbers have significantly increased, Program changes have been made for the benefit of the day and the experience for everyone. We have also had an amazing amount of parent support this year. It is a well-known fact that the Little Athletics Program would not be possible if it wasn't for parents helping out each week. This season we have seen an almost full list of duties each week prior to the Sunday start time.

Whether it is setup or timing support, or even marshalling, the club has been supported so well and it has made for a much improved atmosphere at the track for the 2021/22 season. So to all of you parents THANK YOU!!! The BHLAC Committee thanks each and every one of you for your support this season!

Next Sunday is the last round of the Club Championship Program. This means its the last week for our athletes to accrue competition points that go towards the end of season awards. A reminder that the end of season awards day is on Sunday April 10. This day will feature a full day of events. In the morning we will commence with a Cross Country Come & Try run at the track. This is open to all athletes that may be returning for another Cross Country Season or to anyone that want's to try it for the first time. There will be more information about this to follow over the coming weeks,

Following this we will hold the BHLAC Annual General Meeting in the Clubhouse. We would love to see as many parents as possible and also athletes as this will roll into our end of season awards ceremony followed by our final fun break up and BBQ.

Before then we have a few more weeks of Athletics to run so we look forward to seeing you over the coming weeks. Thanks again for your support today and see you next week at the track!

What's on over the next month or so.....

We are very grateful at BHLAC to have such amazing support from Robinson Gill Lawyers, Smile to Go Dentistry and Lexus of Blackburn. Without them we would not have been able to fund some significant improvements this season.
This season we have added the new lap scoreboard, commenced phase one of the new BHLAC uniform, added some new lane cone markers, new signage and promotional banners and even purchased a new Toyota Rav 4 club car which has made a significant difference to our set up and pack up process.

It would be great to repay the faith that our sponsors have had in us by supporting them any way we can. Please consider our sponsors as we thank them for their ongoing support.  Click on the link below to head to our sponsor page

Sunday 20th February, 2022

It was another great day of Little Athletics last Sunday. With one of our bigger attendances of the year it was great to see everyone really getting involved in the program and achieving a number of personal bests. It has been so pleasing to see the development of our athletes this season. With the help of our resident club coach Steve Cain and his team, along with our event specialists and age group managers on program day, our kids are very fortunate to have the coaching support they need to help them improve as the season goes on.

The February/March window is the championship time. Our BHLAC athletes have competed at a number of events such as the EMR's, Athletics Victoria State Track & Field Champs, LAVic State Multis, AV Country Championships and in a few weeks the LAVic State Track & Field Championships. Congratulations to all our athletes that have competed and progressed to the next stage of their season program. It is fantastic to see so many athletes competing beyond the traditional Sunday program.

As we edge closer to the end of the competition program we are pleased to announce an extension of the season calendar with a couple of extra fun weeks of activity. The Sunday after the State Track & Field Championships will be the Box Hill Relayathon Day. This will be a fun day of athletics, relays and some fund raising for a great cause - The Royal Childrens Hospital Good Friday Appeal. The hospital and LAVic have shared a long association with one another and this year they celebrate 50 years of teaming up. Further information will follow in the coming weeks so watch this space for further details. The week after will also be a fun day. Whilst it won't be for competition points it will be one that everyone will thoroughly enjoy.

This week coming is program B. A big weekend of hurdles so the BHLAC Committee looks forward to seeing you all back at the track on Sunday!

Parent Support Program - SignUp

Picture
It is without doubt that one of the biggest reasons for an improved program and atmosphere this season is because of the level of support the BHLAC Committee has had from our parent cohort. Whilst we heavily promote SignUp through the week, we comfortably have most roles filled by the time Sunday comes around. We would like to thank you, the parents for your amazing support this season. Your commitment to the club and most of all to all our athletes is greatly appreciated.

This weeks program is B. The back straight hurdles program. This program has been extremely well supported this season and it has made an enormous difference to the day when we have plenty of set up assistance. If you are able to assist with setup or any role this week, please sign up early. Thank you

This weeks break in our regular program saw over 80 BHLAC athletes compete at the Eastern Metropolitan Region Track & Field Championships at Knox Athletics Track over Saturday and Sunday.

It was a very busy program and was great to see so many great results. We have had a number qualify for the State Track & Field Championships at Lakeside in March. Congratulations to everyone that competed and for those that will head to the State Championships in March.

The BHLAC Committee would like to thank all the parents for their support over the two days. We had over 70 duties to fill across the Long Jump Pits and Call Room and it all ran like clockwork. Thank you to Rosa Deol and Rajinder Atwal for acting as our Team Managers. A special thank you to our Chief Marshall's over the two days. Having your expertise definitely helped with the smooth running of the program.

We now are entering the last quarter of the 2021/22 Summer Program. This week is program A. We will continue for 3 straight weeks where we will see the completion of the 'official competition program'.  As mentioned at the last Sunday program the Committee were meeting to discuss an extension of the season.

We are pleased to announce that although the season for competition points will conclude on March 6th, we will return to Hagenauer Reserve for 2 extra weeks immediately after the State Track & Field Championships.
Sunday 20th March will be the BHLAC Relayathon Fundraiser. This will be the 50th year that Little Athletics will be supporting the Royal Children's Hospital with this fundraiser. More details will follow in the coming weeks but it will be a great afternoon at the track - and all for a great cause.

The following week (Sunday 27th March) will also be a Program Fun Day and once again more details will follow in  the coming weeks.

We have seen some fantastic results at BHLAC this season. With 3 weeks to go of the official competition program we have no doubt we are going to see many more. We look forward to seeing everyone back at the track this Sunday.

Its fair to say that the presence of the BHLAC area at the EMR Championships at Knox did not go unnoticed. Week 8 at Hagenauer Reserve was definitely a hot one. The decision to move the program to a 9am start was the right decision as the temperature hit almost 35 degrees at 4pm.

Whilst it was still very warm the morning the venue had a great atmosphere. It just shows that with a good team for set up and a smooth running of the schedule we can get through it in great time. Pack up was complete by 11am and everyone was off enjoying their Sunday afternoon for a change with their families and friends.

There has been a significant number of parents that have not only commended the BHLAC Committee for moving the program to this morning but whether moving the program to Sunday morning is something we would consider as a permanent fixture. Whilst there are pros & cons for both the morning and afternoon sessions, ultimately it is something we as members need to explore further.

Over the coming weeks the committee will seek a response from each member to gauge their opinion as to what they would prefer. Once we receive the results the Committee will review and make some decisions for 2022/23 and beyond.

Maybe we move to Sunday mornings, maybe we stick with afternoons.
Perhaps we do afternoons until the Christmas break up and then mornings from January when the weather gets hotter? In any case it is up to all of us to decide the future of the club.

We do thank you all the parents and athletes that participated today and we wish everyone good luck next weekend who are competing at the
LAVic State Multi event next weekend.

A reminder to everyone that there is no program next weekend due to State Multis. Our next program meet which will be Program C will be Sunday 6th February.

Have a great week.

The BHLAC Committee extends a warm welcome to you all and wishes you a safe and prosperous 2022. It was great to be back at the track yesterday for the first week after the Christmas & New Year period.

It was a busy week for our athletes over the weekend. Approximately 30 athletes competed at Ringwood LAC for the Four Pillars Multi event. This is an event where our athletes compete against 3 other clubs Nunawading, Doncaster & Ringwood in an exclusive multi competition consisting of 5 individual events. (sprint, hurdles, circular race and 2 field events) It is a great lead up for the State Multi Event on the 29/30 January at Lakeside. We had a number of podium finishes across most age groups so well done to everyone that competed.

Yesterday's program was hot. It was a very sunny day and with the temperature hitting the 30 degree mark it tested everyone. Even the timing gates were feeling it as we had some technical issues prior to the 400m heats. The change to the 400m heats has been a good test for the club. For many years we have run them off the staggered line. Whilst this speeds up the program, it is not the way they should be run. The event in its correct way is a laned event and it is very important for our athletes (no matter what age) to not only get the experience of running this race the right way but to also help them prepare for regional and state carnivals as they are run this way at these events. Whilst the program ran a little longer yesterday the general consensus is that the majority is happy with the change. We will endeavor to keep making changes if we feel they will add to the experience for our members. We also encourage feedback and ideas from you, the parents. If you have any suggestions that you feel would benefit the club please let one of our Committee members know and we can discuss at the next Committee meeting.

We have 5 more meets before the end of the season which concludes on the 6th March. A reminder to all parents that we have no Little Athletics on weekends that clash with a regional or state carnival. Please click the link below to view our latest season calendar. This Sundays program is Program B.

Have a great week and see you next Sunday!

Vale Westly Windsor (BHLAC Life Membership 1993)

Picture

Westly Windsor arrived at Hagenauer Reserve in the late-1980’s with his then children Matthew & Elizabeth.
‘Wes’ quickly became a central figure at the Box Hill Little Athletics Centre, initially as the Training Coordinator and soon after as Club President – a position he held for 7 years during the 1990s.
If you were a member of the club in the 1990s – you knew Wes, his welcoming face and his polite friendly English accent.

His greatest passion was coaching junior athletes and he continued to help many young athletes of varying standards transition from Little Athletics to the senior club well into the 2000s.
He devoted most of his time to a stable of middle and long distance athletes and there would have been few Victorian teams in the 1990s and 2000s without a protégé of Wes’ toeing the start line.
He was himself a passionate runner (Melbourne Marathon Spartan) and more recently a cyclist - spending his Australian winters scaling Tour De France and Giro D’Italia climbs just for fun.

The club extends it condolences to wife Elaine, Matthew & Elizabeth and thanks Wes for his outstanding contribution to BHLAC over many years.

Mid-week training at BHLAC

Picture

Mid week training resumes this Wednesday at 4:30pm.

Traditionally we shift the training program in the New Year towards the older  kids (Under 9 and up) that are preparing for regional and state events.
The other reason for this is that the younger age groups generally drop off training after the New Year break.

We will continue to offer training for all age groups this week and will re-access this based on the turn out of athletes this Wednesday.

To assist Steve Cain and his team please click on the link below to register for this weeks training session by Midday this Wednesday.

Roles vacant & BHLAC

Picture

We are very fortunate at BHLAC to have a number of amazing volunteers that give up their time to help the club.

Our club Secretary Rajinder Atwol has been an amazing asset to BHLAC however it is time for her to hand over the reins to someone new. We are looking for a new Club Secretary to take over from Rajinder. This role primarily prepares the club in the new season for affiliation and is the connection between the club and Little Athletics Victoria. If you would like to help our club and you and feel you would be able to assist please contact Rajinder directly to the club email at
 boxhill@lavic.com.au

We are also looking for a Cross Country Team Manager for the upcoming season. If you have children that will be competing in the Cross Country Season this year we would greatly appreciate you nominating to be the Team Manager. There is not too much involved and would have the support of the Committee.
If you would like to know more about this role please contact our Club President Dean Williams on 0417346382 or email him at president@boxhilllac.com.au

Thank you to our Sponsors

Their financial support will enable us to invest into more equipment and assist with improvements that will ultimately improve the experience for all BHLAC members,

If your family needs dental work, legal advice or perhaps a new car, we would love you to consider and support our club partners.

BHLAC would like to thank all three major sponsors for their commitment to the club for 2022 and look forward to a long future working together. Head over to our Sponsors page on the link below for more details

It was a warm and sunny day at Hagenauer Reserve yesterday. A full program of hurdles on the back straight and 100m & 200m sprints on the front kept officials, parents and athletes busy. With one week to go before we have a break for Christmas & New Year it is almost time to celebrate what has been a brilliant first half of the season at Box Hill Little Athletics Centre.

We have welcomed a number of new families to BHLAC this season. With our membership numbers exceeding our previous years figure we are on track to reach numbers that we haven't seen for quite a few years.

We look forward to the last week of the year this coming Sunday. We hope to have a very special visit from Santa along with a BBQ Sausage Sizzle to end the day.

Thank you to all the parents this year for your support. Without all of you doing your bit we would not be thriving as a club. The atmosphere has been sensational and we can tell all the kids are really enjoying their Sundays and the athletics.

Have a great week and see you next Sunday!

This week at BHLAC -5th December 2021

12/5/2021

Picture

Week 4 at BHLAC saw us return to Program A today, albeit with a few adjustments to the program. For the first time in 2 years we offered a Competition walks program to start off the day. It was really pleasing to see so many turn out to complete the walks event. At distances between 700m through to 1,500m it definitely gave a number of athletes a solid warm up before the main program commenced.

With today's program mainly consisting of sprints on the front straight we included a trial of running the 400m program as a laned event. Something  we have not done for many years. To put it simply, it takes a lot more effort and time to run the event this way. We normally get an entire age group completed in one heat when we start them off the single line but it is important for the kids to be comfortable running in their own lane, given they will compete like this at Regional & State Carnivals.

Besides an unfortunate IT timing delay at the start of the day, the program ran extremely well and should be a permanent feature moving forward following a post meet review with the Committee.

The Committee also unveiled the new Electronic Timing Board which was positioned above the timing tent. It was fantastic to see it make its debut and was really well received by the athletes and spectators. The timing board is courtesy of a Sports Grant BHLAC received late last season. A special thank you to Peter Stefanos who is a well known member of our Seniors club.
Peter has worked tirelessly in the background to get this ready and the Committee would like to thank Peter for his assistance with this new permanent feature at the track.

With two weeks to go before the Xmas breakup we have the busiest two programs coming up. Next week is Program B (hurdles focus) and then a busy last week on the 19th December.

We will be holding a BBQ on the last day of the year and also are hoping for a very special visit from Santa in the afternoon as well.

Thank you to all the parents that assisted today and also for your patience while we sorted out the technical issue. It is great to have such amazing support.
Enjoy your week!!

This week at BHLAC - 28th Nov 2021

11/28/2021

Picture

It was another brilliant day today at BHLAC. It was an action packed program with the Circular Program taking over the day. 300 & 200m hurdles followed by 1,100m & 1,500m events tested the kids in the warm sunny weather but all ran well and set themselves a benchmark to work on for the rest of the season.

It has been a great start this year at Hagenauer Reserve. With music in the background and a little bit of commentary, has definitely added to the atmosphere during the program. We will achieve a significant milestone this week at BHLAC with our membership numbers exceeding last years membership total. In fact it will be the first time we have increased on the year before in 5 years so it is fantastic to see so many people (new & old) embracing the BHLAC Sunday program.

Next week we return to Program A and primarily sprints. We would encourage parents to sign up early for a duty and also remind you all that parent duty is not only essential to the successful running of the program but also a requirement for your children to be eligible for an end of season award.

Have a great week and see you all next week!
